


James Randolph Hillard, MD

aphha@msu.eduAs the Associate Provost for Human Health Affairs, Dr. Hillard provides leadership and support to Michigan State University's College of Human Medicine, College of Nursing, College of Osteopathic, as well as oversight of the MSU HealthTeam and Olin Student Health center, working collaboratively in support of new and existing initiatives and the mission of excellence in education, healthcare, research, outreach, and community service.
A graduate of Stanford University, Dr. Hillard received his M.D. degree in 1977, and completed his internship in pediatrics/psychiatry and psychiatry residency at Duke University Medical Center in 1981. His subspecialties include emergency and forensic psychiatry. He is board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (psychiatry), American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (forensic psychiatry), and the National Board of Medical Examiners.
Prior to joining Michigan State University in July 2007, Dr. Hillard served as professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Cincinnati from 1989 to 2006. He also served as executive associate dean for clinical affairs from 1997 to 2002, and vice dean for clinical affairs from 2002 to 2007.
